About Michael Newman

Michael Newman, MediatorMichael Newman was born and raised on the Monterey Peninsula. He attended the University of California at Santa Barbara for undergraduate work and then obtained his law degree from King Hall at the University of California at Davis. After completing law school, Michael returned to Monterey to begin his practice.

After working as a trial lawyer for ten years, he began work as a mediator in 1985 after training with Gary Friedman through the Center for Mediation in Law at Muir Beach, California. His work moved gradually from litigation to mediation. For the past 15 years, Michael's practice has been devoted exclusively to mediation with an emphasis on family law matters.

In 2003, Michael received a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, California, and is currently enrolled in Pacifica's doctoral program in depth psychology. Michael also co-leads wilderness workshops with Steven Harper at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California.
